Deerpark Space Park Improvements moving along

For Immediate Release – July 17, 2012

(HUGUENOT, NY) – Deerpark Town Supervisor Karl A. Brabenec announced today that progress is being made with improvements to Harriet Space Park located off of Route 209 in Huguenot.  Earlier this year, the Town Board authorized reserve parkland money to construct a football/soccer field with an additional practice field, upgrades to the baseball fields, new movable bleachers and the construction of a concession stand.

“The concession stand is almost complete and one of the fields will be ready for use during the fall football/soccer season,” said Supervisor Brabenec.  “These are first improvements that have been made to the park in almost two decades.”

Many of the local youth sports organizations have been without a home in Deerpark for many years, although there are a large contingent of residents that participate.  These improvements will allow them to return back to the town and possibly expand their programs. The improvement effort was the idea of two town board members, Councilman David M. Hoovler and Gary Spears.

“The Town Board is always looking for ways to improve the quality of life for our residents,” said Councilman Hoovler. “I want to thank the rest of the board members, local businesses, and many local families for their support, private donations, and in-kind services and labor that has helped to make this necessary project possible.”

A park re-dedication ceremony will be planned in the next couple of months.

“This is a grand slam for the youth of our town,” said Councilman Spears, who has been involved with local youth sports for many years.  “The town is always proud to create more opportunities for future generations.”
