(HUGUENOT, NY) – Deerpark Town Supervisor Karl A. Brabenec and Town Clerk Florence T. Santini announced today that the Town of Deerpark has become the first town in Orange County to offer E-ZPass tags for sale. Each tag retails for $25 and becomes active immediately upon purchase. The first $15 is available for toll usage, while the remaining $10 becomes available once the tag is registered.
“I am so happy to be the first town clerk in Orange County to offer this service to our residents,” said Town Clerk Santini. “This will be a convenient way for our residents to obtain these passes and save a little money in the process.”
Using an E-ZPass typically saves users five percent or more off the cash toll amount. Earlier this year, Santini learned about the opportunity to sell the tags locally while attending a town clerks conference in Buffalo. The Deerpark Town Board approved a motion to make an application to the state at its June Meeting earlier this month. Deerpark’s neighboring town, the Town of Forestburgh, officially became the first town in the state to offer sale of the tags locally last week and the Town of Lumberland will soon offer this service as well.
“We always are striving to provide better service and more accommodation for Deerpark residents,” said Supervisor Brabenec. “This is a fantastic program that will certainly benefit all of our constituents as well as others from the surrounding municipalities.”
E-ZPass can be used not just on the New York State Thruway, but also on toll roads and bridges throughout New York and in 14 other states, including all of New York’s neighboring states. Tags will be sold during normal business hours, Monday through Friday from 8 am to 4 pm, at the Deerpark Town Clerk’s Office located at 420 US Route 209, Huguenot, New York. In addition to buying new tags, they can add up to four total tags per account. Commercial vehicle tags and technical support cannot be done at the Town Clerk’s office, however, that can be accessed on the E-ZPass website atwww.ezpassny.com or by phone at 1-800-333-8655.
