FEMA FUNDING APPROVED FOR DEERPARK

For Immediate Release – July 31, 2012

(HUGUENOT, NY) – Deerpark Town Supervisor Karl A. Brabenec announced today that the Town of Deerpark has been approved for a 100% FEMA reimbursement amount of $878,739.59.

Over the past year, town funds and labor have been used to fix infrastructure damage caused by Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee. The federal government will contribute 75% of that total, the state’s share is 12.5% and the local share, which is 12.5%, may be absorbed by the state.

“Thanks to the team effort of our town board members, highway superintendent, town clerk, town engineer, and emergency management officials, we were able to secure these necessary funds to reimburse monies outlaid originally by our local taxpayers,” said Supervisor Brabenec.  “We will be aggressively working to obtain more reimbursements over the next few months.”

Applications are still pending for Big Pond Road and Bridge improvements, which total $200,000 and appeals are being made for the following projects which were initially denied by FEMA: Peenpack Trail, Sleepy Hollow, Pinekill Project, and Cora Rose Lane Project.  In addition, the town has applied to the New York State DOT for Peenpack Trail and Sleepy Hollow improvements under a Federal Highway Administration grant totaling $1.25 million.

“The money that we are receiving will help to replenish the town’s cash flow and will help to improve our bond rating and financial condition as well,” said Councilman David M. Hoovler.

The reimbursement checks should be mailed to the town starting in the 3rd quarter of 2012.
